BlueX Trade summer internship
Intro
After my graduation with my bachelor’s degree, and also came to the end of my previous internship at ESUN Bank. I’m just gradually curious about the blueprint of my career path, so I opened the job site to search for the next internship this summer, and then BlueX came up my sight. Here I would like to talk about this amazing journey in BlueX for what I’ve done and something about this start-up.
About Company
BlueX Trade, which is an important role specializing in shipping digitization. At our first step, we established the ocean carrier white-label e-commerce solution with dynamic pricing. Therefore, by using it, we could effectively manage rates, space, and schedules on the world’s leading white-label solutions for carriers (ex: Evergreen, Yang-Ming).
So after building the platform between every carrier and forwarders, there is another critical issue about the transaction in this whole shipping industry. So, we just think about why don’t build a virtual wallet that amplifies cash flow for buyers and sellers. Buyers get flexible pay later options and sellers get paid instantly. Built for growing businesses who want healthier cash flows, to deal with the difficulties of cross-border payment, make it more efficient and convenient, such as creating an invoice and receiving payment, and that is what BlueX-Pay did.
Also, we do have a fast loan solution called Pay-It-Later, to help you pay for logistics costs in fast and flexible financing. Hence, you could avoid paying huge fines for ships stuck in port, because Pay-It-Later could lend you the money for cargo or freight, depending on which you want.
The reason why I choose BlueX
About Tasks
- Test automation process refactoring - From Jenkins to Gitlab CI/CD
- Visual Testing with Applitools
My observation
As my observation, Here I wanna talk about my thought about this internship. Hope that would be useful for you to know more about BlueX from the real side.
- High-speed iteration
For the RD team, every two weeks is a unit of the workload, we called sprint. It’s based on the user story which is published by the product manager. Therefore, each member should divide this sprint into several tasks, and then finish them in this sprint. In conclusion, to reach out to the requirement of customers, we released a new version every two weeks, so that we could quickly verify whether this version is suitable or not.
2. Autonomy and Responsibility
I would say that BlueX is a company full of autonomy and responsibility. Although my role is an Intern, BlueX also treats me as a regular employee instead of a gofer. My mentor assign me some tasks that have some impact on the company, and that definitely encourages me to work more energetically, it makes me believe what I’ve done would be exactly implemented in their workflow. On the other hand, everything in BlueX is possible as long as you could imagine and there will always be someone to help you when you need it.
Otherwise, BlueX considered responsibility necessary, so everyone should keep up with the schedule they arranged initially. Yet there is no limit to the workplace, so you could choose to wfh or go to the office, depending on which place would make you feel more comfortable or convenient.
3. Everything starts with curiosity
I think that curiosity is the key point for everyone in the workplace, and it always comes from the pain points that we encountered. Consequently, BlueX wants each of us to keep this in mind. Once we’re software engineers, we should chase a new technique repeatedly, to make this entire SDLC more stable and efficient. Moreover, to meet the needs of customers, we also need to think about how to achieve the concept of “Do more with less”.
As a result, curiosity is the thrust to let you head for a better way to solve the problem, For the RD team, it could motivate everyone’s potential to become an eligible engineer.
4. Transparency and Honesty
Even though I’m just an intern, they do not hesitate to share information about the company as well as their work experience. Also, the weekly 1 on 1 meeting with my mentor encourages me a lot, to deal with my question about career, QA, and anything about life. Based on this regular meeting, everyone believes in the company and is willing to be honest with each other without calculating. This would create synergy by giving authentic feedback, and let everyone works more positively.
My conclusion
To sum up, I would say this journey is worth it, and truly thank for BlueX giving me such a chance to be part of the RD team. Furthermore, I would also want to thank William and Kay, for your guidance, this experience taught me a lot about test automation, the concept of CI, and visual testing. I’m looking forward to cooperating with BlueX in the following year!
